Failure as compass.

Your symptom is not your enemy. It's the only thing still insisting on telling you something you don't want to know.

Failure as compass.
The body knows before the word does. A contracture that won't release, insomnia that settles in, anguish without apparent cause. Something gets stuck at a point that medicine cannot locate and willpower cannot resolve. It is not weakness or lack of character. It is a knowledge that has not yet found its saying. What doesn't work in the body is what insists on being heard.
Curious mechanism of the symptom: we want to eliminate it but it sustains us. Without that insistence there would be no question, without a question there would be no movement. The symptom works like an inverted compass: it doesn't point to where we're going but to where we come from. What doesn't work marks the territory of the unsaid. To silence it is to lose the map.
Today's clinic receives subjects medicated into silence. Pills that turn off the noise without deciphering the message. Analysis proposes something else: not to silence what doesn't work but to make it speak. Where the symptom screams, the subject can begin to whisper his truth.
