Hekima Project
Where experience finds accompaniment.
Dear friends,
There is a word in Kiswahili that says it all: Hekima. It means "Wisdom" — and it is the name we chose for this project because we believe that old age is not a problem to be solved, but a stage of life that deserves to be accompanied with the same seriousness, depth, and care as any other. Hekima is a specialized psychological intervention initiative for adults aged 65 and over, designed to address what the conventional healthcare system rarely sees: the inner world of those who are growing old.
Unannounced loneliness, grief that cannot find words, the loss of roles that gave meaning to a life for decades, the silent fear of progressive dependence — these are real, frequent, and profoundly neglected experiences. The clinical evidence is clear: emotional isolation in old age deteriorates health as much as a chronic illness. And yet, older adults remain the group with the least access to professional psychological care. Hekima was born to change that.
The project operates under a structured psychoanalytic clinical model that integrates individual, group, and intergenerational sessions. This combination is not coincidental: individual listening allows us to explore each person's history and inner world; the group space breaks isolation and builds community; and intergenerational work reshapes family bonds that often fracture at this stage of life. Each process has an initial duration of three months, with weekly clinical supervision and professional rigor in every session.
Behind the project is a team of psychologists and psychotherapists specialized in psychogerontology, who participate as committed volunteers — professionals who chose to put their training at the service of those who need it most. Their presence makes it possible to keep operational costs minimal and ensures that available resources reach exactly where they matter: the therapeutic space, clinical materials, and the coordination that sustains each care process.
We believe you can be part of this. We are not asking you to solve the problem of aging — we are inviting you to make it possible for an older adult to have a place where they can be heard, where their story is recognized, and where they find tools to live this stage of life with greater fullness. Your contribution, at whatever level is within your reach, becomes real sessions, concrete therapeutic processes, accompanied lives. That is Hekima.
Think for a moment of someone close to you who has grown old in silence. Who has carried the weight of the years without a space to set some of that weight down. Supporting Hekima is an act of recognition toward those who built the world we live in, and who today deserve to receive something of what they gave throughout their lives. Your trust in this project is not just a donation — it is a declaration that dignity has no age, and that it is never too late to heal.
With gratitude,
